Skinners’ Hall Rising
As Skinners’ Hall is located within a narrow one-way system with no space for a crane on site, it was necessary to install a huge platform lift within the central Courtyard to raise building materials to roof level.

These materials were then transported around the site via a ‘block and tackle’ system, linked to a rail within the scaffold canopy.
Occasionally, it was necessary to use a towering mobile crane that could navigate the narrow College Street to deposit the heaviest items onto the site. These included the biggest elements of the ‘Air Source Heat Recovery System’, paving, and oak beams for the new Pavilion.
In the early stages of the redevelopment, the site was busy with the teams from Regency Town House and Historic Building Analysis deciphering the many layers of the Hall’s history. Later, there were multitudes of trades and craftsmen, including specialists in lead, brick restoration, carpentry, joinery and electrical systems.
