History of Skinners’ Almshouses
The Company’s very first almshouses date from the 1550s, when Elizabeth Hollis generously left a bequest to build homes for “six poore almsfolke”. Elizabeth’s will was executed by Sir Andrew Judd, who donated land on her behalf to The Skinners’ Company for the construction of these homes.
