Station 5

Looking to the future

As the redevelopment project reaches its conclusion, we are delighted to have achieved our aims for accessibility, sustainability and future maintenance.

We now have:

A sustainable Hall:  A new mechanical and electrical supply means that we have “80 tons of equipment sitting on 17th Century foundations”.

We have enhanced LED lighting throughout and installed a digital ‘Building Management System’ to control systems and optimise energy consumption.

We have our own electricity substation to help in the supply of power. With no more gas onsite, our energy use has reduced, and our carbon emissions are significantly decreased.  Ongoing use will enable us to gather data towards even better management.

An accessible Hall: Achieved by levelling, the clever use of gradients and introducing a new lift housed within the roof terrace pavilion. Only the ground floor of number 9 remains inaccessible due to Historical and planning constraints, but all other areas of Skinners’ Hall are fully accessible.

A commercial events venue: The introduction of the ‘Walbrook staircase’ and a basement corridor were key in enabling more diverse use of Skinners’ Hall, circumventing the Outer Hall to allow access to the various rooms. The Vaults – our impressive new event space has its own entrance, so can be hired independently, and the opening and restoration of the first-floor Georgian rooms in the Dowgate Range offer further potential for private dining and meeting space. For the first time, the Hall can host concurrent events.

We hope you have enjoyed this insight into the Redevelopment of Skinners’ Hall, and that you agree we have a beautiful building that will serve The Skinners’ Company for generations to come.
